So on paper the new oneplus 8t it is so specked out that it quite seems like it could eat the google pixel 5 for breakfast for an identical price you've

OnePlus 8T Vs Google Pixel 5

               Display:                        120Hz                                     90Hz

               Camera Setup:           Quad                                      Dual

Selfie Camera:           32 MP                                    8 MP

               Chipset:           SNAPDRAGON 865               SNAPDRAGON 765G

Storage:           UFS 3.1 STORAGE                 UFS 2.1 STORAGE

               Battery:                   4500 mAh                              4080 mAh

The high-end chipset versus a mid-range a method faster ufs 3.1 storage and a significantly bigger battery which It doesn't really work the opposite way around what does the pixel have that the oneplus doesn't the water resistance rating yeah quite but the one plus still has seals to guard against water damage anyways the pixel has wireless charging one plus doesn't so I assume that's a positive but really wired charging is much more efficient  therein category the 65 watts one plus charging quite demolishes pixels 18 watts you do not even really get the historic software advantage that google has had because oneplus software has improved to some extent where I might say it isn't just visually similar but it actually offers tons of features and granular customization that googles doesn't

They're shipping with an equivalent android 11 and therefore the refore the refore the same three years of promised software updates the 8t really seems like oneplus took their best phone and just turned a few of of things down but the pixel really seems like google started with a budget phone and turned a few things up but like almost enough it genuinely almost comes across as if google doesn't care about the pixel 5 and there is a few of other things that back this up how their budget phones are out selling their flagships repeatedly over and the way they're apparently only producing something like 800 000 pixel fives as if they're already preparing for it to not sell well plus i used to be watching their launch event just feeling a touch puzzled google spent 20 minutes talking about their smart speaker and google tv and literally eight minutes talking about their phones and of that i would like to mention one minute talking about the pixel 5 itself now only for a second contrast that to oneplus you held a one-hour event almost exclusively for the 8t and the 80 isn't even their main launch this year it's just a touch unusual even comparing the retail box of the 2 phones it seems like we have got one scrappy company fighting to supply the maximum amount content and as unique an experience as possible at every step of the customer journey versus a corporation who thinks it's just a box it doesn't really matter what it's like so as far because the quite the mindset i had going into this the the promise of those two phones it seems like one plus may be a head but how do they pile up in practice.

Design:

OnePlus 8T: well externally the oneplus is ok i'm a lover of how the colour completely flips from blue to green counting on the angle you hold it it feels tough and well made but it isn't an all-round upgrade compared to the last oneplus 8 it's bulkier it's heavier and that they swapped the marginally curved display to a totally flat one which makes the side bezels look thicker plus they only straight up got obviate that premium matte finish in situ of a more standard glossy one if i had to guess they've probably done this just to offer people a reason to still consider the costlier oneplus 8 pro now while this is often happening while oneplus seems to become more conventional Google Pixel 5: google's gone rogue the pixel 5 is remarkably small for a flagship it's got a fingerprint scanner on the rear during a world where literally every other android has one within the display it comes during this super unusual almost recycled looking sage finish and the whole body is formed out of aluminium which you recognize it had been a well-liked material back in 2014 but was phased out due to how metal tends to dam the transmissions your phone must make but seems like they figured that out here and i will say that from my point of view almost everything about the way the pixel 5 feels the smaller footprint the textured finish is spot on quite like technology meets nature minimalist vibe but I even have also asked a few of people for his or her opinion and their consensus was that it feels light and cheap and that it quite looks like a toilet tile which i now can't unsee so fine the texture of the phones is subjective but as soon as you begin to pitch these two against one another in any meaningful way it doesn't look good for google

Battey Life:

As I assume you'd expect the smaller battery results in less battery life I cycle through an entire load of apps for a couple of hours and albeit the oneplus features a larger slightly brighter and better refresh rate display it still managed to end on 76 while the pixel was left with 72. also oneplus did this all while staying at a lower temperature because of a redesigned cooling system both have a reasonably good dual speaker setup but you'll also tell that simply because the oneplus may be a bigger phone it's got more room to push air so it sounds a touch fuller  really it is all about the top user experience the pixel can't shake the very fact that it's got a chip that's two-thirds of the facility and storage speeds that's literally half as fast

Gaming:

this right here is gen impact probably the best-looking android game I've ever tried and is totally playable at absolute maximum settings on both phones cod mobile again is often played on the pixel with every setting cranked to the max the frame rate dips a touch every now and again versus one plus but it's just about smooth sailing however you notice the performance gap in other areas while the pixel 5 is you recognize it is a pretty snappy phone the oneplus feels quicker when doing almost everything checking out things the loading of applications time interval for photos it isn't even close I actually handed this 80 to someone who was a user of the already fast oneplus 8. and one among the primary things they said was oh wow it's even faster

Cameras:

But niceties aside i do have a bone to select with both of those camera systems they're both good cameras but they're also both disappointingly unambitious if you set the oneplus 8t camera next to its predecessor you would possibly first think wow they've completely redone it this is often true next generation but honestly the most important change is simply the aesthetic this main 48 megapixel camera is just like not just the oneplus 8 that came before but the affordable oneplus nord the oneplus 7t before that and therefore the oneplus 7 before that it's two and a half year old hardware and if that seems unambitious then the pixel 5 is even lesser this main 12.2 megapixel sensor is that the same because the one seen on the pixel 4 last year the pixel 3 the air before that and therefore the pixel 2 the year before that and fun fact this sensor is really smaller than the one found on the very first original google pixel it's more like four-year-old hardware and if i had to guess i might say that of any 700 phone on the market immediately no phone features a lower cost of parts than this pixel 5. they're good cameras though both of them these are both companies who are making the foremost of what's there they're really taking advantage of the very fact that they've spent an extended time using one specific set of hardware so annually they've managed to quite squeeze a touch bit more out of it so if you're coming from a 3 four year old flagship phone you are going to be really happy these are reliable cameras they're cameras which you'll pick a topic snap a photograph and you'll trust that it's getting to be good sometimes the one plus is best it generally gets in additional detail just being a bigger higher res sensor and truly both within the day and within the dark because of a far better night mode than the last phone and oneplus dynamic range algorithm may be a little more aggressive than google's so often does a far better job ofkeeping bright sky from overexposing they've swapped out the 2 megapixel macro camera for a 5 megapixel micro camera which suggests you'll now get close-ups that do not completely suck and therefore the addition of a replacement monochrome sensor adds a touch of additional sharpness and detail once I should say if you opt to capture in black and white sometimes the pixel is best actually the pixel is best in just about every situation that relies more on software like when you are taking portraits or once you take night mode shots while it does tend to urge less detail it'll always nail the colour reconstruction and truly even flicking to the ultrawide cameras while oneplus and lots of other manufacturers have a sort of color shift the pixel doesn't i'm not kidding the software on this phone is borderline fantasy if you're taking a photograph of a face it can create a 3d model of it and permit you to feature in light that was never there you'll refocus photos you've already taken you'll eliminate color from backgrounds it is so much fun it is also got improved bitmap stabilization which you'll feel when walking around with it and a replacement cinematic stabilization mode which basically just slows the video down and adds artificial stabilization on top but it works rather well actually never in my life have i seen software this capable on hardware this limiting it's like google found out the way to do magic on the other hand decided to only perform it at kids birthday parties therefore the cameras of those two phones trade blows but this is often where the comparison takes a touch of a turn

Pixel 4A 5G:

see alongside this 699 pixel 5 google also announced the pixel 4a 5g which is essentially the pixel 5 but loses 2 gigs of ram the 90hz refresh rate and official ip rating and wireless charging now which may appear to be tons of missing stuff but it's 200 cheaper oh and this phone features a headphone jack which neither of the two are comparing do so let's just mention pricing for a second within the u.s the oneplus 8t is 749 while the pixel is 6.99 so oneplus is costlier right well not really the rationale is that within the us the sole version oneplus is selling is that the top spec 12 gig of ram and 256 gig storage option but in other regions just like the uk where you'll buy the bottom model with eight gigs of ram and 128 gigs of storage like the pixel 5 has oneplus is really cheaper which makes it an entire no-brainer i'm not too bothered by its fast charging but it's better battery life it's 120hz display the chipset and therefore the refore the superfast storage are likely to mean a phone which will beef us and stay fast three years down the road they need also integrated optimized charging as a software feature which may quite help to guard the batteries but at an equivalent time i feel that google's weak hardware strong software strategy makes more and more sense the cheaper phones become because within the budget and the mid-range segment none of the competition has high-end hardware so google isn't getting out-competed

Summary:

so while the pixel 5 is a decent value at 699 I'd say the Pixel 4 a5g is a sweet value at $499 which the traditional pixel 4a is an outstanding value at $349. but just remember that in some regions including the united kingdom both the pixel 5 and therefore the pixel 4 a5g just don't make the maximum amount of sense due to how affordable the one plus is.
